Enemy Lines Extra Quality
Roger Ebert gave the film 1 stars out of four, likening it to a comedy: "Its hero is so reckless and its villains so incompetent that it's a showdown between a man begging to be shot, and an enemy that can't hit the side of a Bosnian barn."[11]
Enemy Lines
Colombia is in chaos, as a five-man team of US Navy SEALS commanded by Lieutenant Sean Macklin embark on a secret mission to ensure that peace talks between the country's government and insurgent guerrillas don't erupt into violence, an unforeseen complication threatens all out war. Out of nowhere, the meeting falls under attack and the leaders from both sides are killed. The SEALS have been framed for the crime, leaving them to fight for their lives from behind enemy lines against the Colombian Special Forces (AFEUR). Abandoned by their government and left for dead, the weary soldiers race to uncover the evidence that will prove their innocence while ensuring that the violence is contained. Should the fighting spill over the border, the entire region could be plunged into a nightmarish inferno of war and death.
Inspired by true events, the film follows a 1943 British commando squad that is teamed with an American officer on a covert mission into Poland, deep behind enemy lines. Working with the resistance they cross the harsh wilderness intent on kidnapping and extracting a sought-after Polish scientist, Dr. Fabian, from the Germans. Fabian is known to hold information on secret innovations that would prove vital to the Allied efforts. With a German hunter unit on their tail and a Russian squad also intent on kidnapping Fabian for their own ends, it becomes a race against time, that for the winners, will change the shape of the war.
The premiere of "Behind Enemy Lines" was held aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson. I wonder if it played as a comedy. Its hero is so reckless and its villains so incompetent that it's a showdown between a man begging to be shot, and an enemy that can't hit the side of a Bos-nian barn. This is not the story of a fugitive trying to sneak through enemy terrain and be rescued, but of a movie character magically transported from one photo opportunity to another.
What Burnett does do is stroll through Bosnia like a bird watcher, exposing himself in open areas and making himself a silhouette against the skyline. He's only spotted in the first place because when his buddy is cornered, he's hiding safely but utters a loud involuntary yell and then starts to run up an exposed hillside. First rule of not getting caught: No loud involuntary yells within the hearing of the enemy.
This guy is a piece of work. Consider the scene where Burnett substitutes uniforms with a Serbian fighter. He even wears a black ski mask covering his entire face. He walks past a truck of enemy troops, and then what does he do? Why, he removes the ski mask, revealing his distinctive blond hair, and then he turns back toward the truck so we can see his face, in case we didn't know who he was. How did this guy get through combat training? Must have been a social promotion to keep him with his age group.
At times Burnett is pursued by the entire Serbian army, which fires at him with machine guns, rifles and tanks, of course never hitting him. The movie recycles the old howler where hundreds of rounds of ammo miss the hero, but all he has to do is aim and fire, and--pow! another bad guy jerks back, dead. I smiled during the scene where Admiral Reigart is able to use heat-sensitive satellite imagery to look at high-res silhouettes of Burnett stretched out within feet of the enemy. Maybe this is possible. What I do not believe is that the enemies in this scene could not spot the American uniform in a pile of enemy corpses.

Pararescueman and retired Chief Master Then-Staff Sgt. Jeremy Hardy, a pararescueman, and his fellow airmen were on alert in Bosnia on May 2, 1999, when they got the call: An F-16 had been shot down by a surface-to-air missile over Serbia and an Air Force pilot was trapped behind enemy lines.
Thousands of courageous men and women led escape lines and acted as couriers and guides across Western Europe as well as other theatres of war, including the Far East. They were prepared to work in secret, for an organization whose name, MI9 in Britain or MIS-X in America, they did not discover until after the war when they received awards and medals from the British and American governments. Without them, MI9 and MIS-X could not have rescued the Allied airmen and soldiers. I was lucky to be able to interview Elsie Maréchal in Belgium, who is one of the last surviving members of the Comet Line. This escape line ran from Brussels down to the Pyrenees and into Spain during the Second World War.
Wedge Antilles, in command of Fleet Group Three, withdraws from the debacle at Coruscant to the Yuuzhan Vong-held Borleias, intent on re-taking the planet. With a vanguard that includes Luke and Mara Jade Skywalker, Corran Horn, Rogue Squadron, and the Wild Knights under Saba Sebatyne's command, the Star Destroyer Mon Mothma blows through enemy defenses, allowing Lando Calrissian and his YVH-Series battle droids to land on the planet, along with other New Republic troops. With the destruction of an enemy rakamat, the planet is quickly secured. Wedge lands his forces at the site of the old Alderaan Biotics facility and prepares to hold the planet, even with no idea of the state of the government or the whereabouts of his family.
Tsavong Lah responds to the New Republic occupation of Borleias by sending a large war fleet under Wyrpuuk Cha to retake the world and recoup the embarrassment suffered by the Vong there. Wedge plans on a long intensive campaign against the commander, allowing the Yuuzhan Vong to slowly accomplish their goals, but at a horrific price in personnel and material. However, during what was supposed to be an abortive battle, the Lusankya and the Millennium Falcon revert from hyperspace in the middle of the enemy fleet, and Wedge is forced to destroy the Yuuzhan Vong fleet immediately or lose more ships. Fortunately, Danni Quee reports to Wedge that the yammosk coordinators were quickly destroyed, giving the New Republic forces the edge they need to quickly defeat Cha and his fleet.
Each Commando has his own special skills. The Green Beret is a silent killer and the only one who can carry barrels. He can also move bodies and his decoy distracts enemies. The Sniper is pretty much good for only one thing-shooting soldiers at long range with his precision rifle. However, this is a necessity in many of the missions. The Marine is the only Commando who can swim and operate water craft. He also can kill silently with his spear gun. The Sapper can carry grenades and explosives as well as a trap capable of killing a man instantly. The Driver is the only one who can operate land vehicles and man gun emplacements. He can also carry a machine-gun during some missions. Finally, the Spy can put on a German uniform and walk among the enemy, distracting them when necessary or poisoning them. He can also move bodies out of sight. It is important to learn the skills of each Commando and use them appropriately.
In many of the missions, your men are not only outnumbered, but also outgunned. While each carries a pistol, the Germans are carrying rifles or machine-guns. It takes three shots from a pistol to kill a soldier. Therefore, avoid gun duels because you will more than often lose. Also, stealth and surprise are your best weapons. Since the pistol will alert the enemy to your presence, choose silent methods of killing the enemy. You usually do not want them to know you are around until the very end of the mission when things begin exploding and you are making your escape. 041b061a72
